Shivers down

Back when I was in second grade, something quite unusual happened to me at my school, which I’ll never forget. Our school, Pineview Elementary, was originally a Victorian hospital, adding a mysterious air to the place.

One day, I needed to use the restroom, but my fear of the supposedly haunted toilet area had me on edge. I couldn’t muster the courage to go alone, so I asked my best friend, Sam, to accompany me. We ventured together towards the restroom, a daunting journey for a couple of second-graders.

As I entered one of the cubicles, the lights above flickered ominously. My heart raced as I whispered to Sam, “There’s a ghost here!” Sam, however, dismissed my fear, attributing the flickering lights to an electrical issue. I didn’t feel reassured, but I hurriedly left the cubicle and headed back towards our classroom.

As we walked down the corridor, I suddenly froze in my tracks, overcome by an eerie sensation that sent shivers down my spine. Sam was only a meter away, and I desperately searched for an explanation. That’s when I saw it – a massive, smoky blob, as if a ghostly presence, swiftly vanishing through the wall.

I was petrified, my eyes wide with terror. I couldn’t contain my fear any longer, and tears streamed down my face as I ran back to the classroom. My teacher, Mrs. Anderson, noticed my distress and asked what had happened. In between sobs, I managed to explain what I had witnessed.

Mrs. Anderson, like any adult trying to reassure a child, calmly responded, “There’s no such thing as ghosts.” But I couldn’t shake the memory of that chilling encounter.

To this day, I wonder about the mysterious sighting I experienced at Pineview Elementary. Teachers may say there are no ghosts, but my heart still harbors a lingering doubt, and I can’t help but believe that some mysteries remain unexplained, no matter how hard we try to rationalize them.
