In 2015, I moved into my current residence, a charming, yellow brick house with a substantial backyard. My stay there has spanned over six years. The first night in my new home, I experienced unsettling dreams involving a young girl, no older than six. These dreamlike encounters persisted for only a couple of nights, but soon, stranger occurrences invaded my waking life.
I’ve always possessed a passion for singing. One sunny day, when I found myself alone at home, I decided to indulge in this favorite pastime. As I went about my chores, I sang aloud with gusto, my voice resonating throughout the house. However, after a while, I transitioned from singing to humming and, eventually, to silence. Just five minutes after I stopped singing, a curious thing happened: the same melody I had been singing started to emanate faintly from the attic. My heart raced, and I stood rooted to the spot, abandoning my laundry and chores. The voice was distinctly different from mine—higher in pitch, belonging unmistakably to a young girl. Panic gripped me as the song grew louder, each note sending chills down my spine.
Then, a revelation dawned upon me. I recalled the dreams of the young girl, her presence in my subconscious. This unsettling realization was matched by the memory of advice from my stepfather, a man well-versed in the matters of spirits. He had once told me that if I ever encountered an otherworldly presence, I should calmly, unflinchingly tell it to leave, for it would be compelled to obey.
Summoning my courage, I spoke aloud, addressing the enigmatic entity residing in my attic. “Leave me,” I declared firmly, suppressing my fear. “You are not welcome here.”
To my astonishment, the voice began to recede, growing fainter with each word I uttered. The haunting melody gradually faded, and an eerie silence descended upon the house.
From that day onward, whenever I found myself alone, I would sing to myself—a test of my newfound understanding of the inexplicable. Yet, no voice ever echoed from the attic, and the haunting melody of innocence remained a distant memory. The young girl had departed my home, leaving behind a perplexing enigma etched into my mind—a ghostly encounter that defied explanation.
