The Graduation Party Mystery

In the quaint town of Vrindavan, after my friend Aisha’s Graduation party in fifth grade, my friends – Priya, Meera, Aanya, Riya, and I – were having a sleepover. We sat on the floor in the living room, immersed in chatter about all things girl-related.

Behind us lay a window, and a sudden loud sound caught our attention. Turning to investigate, we found Kristen’s parents absent, leaving only us in the house. Initially, we dismissed the noise, attributing it to a falling object. But then the window blinds began to open and shut rapidly on their own. The eerie spectacle sent us bolting outside to the backyard, next to Kristen’s pool.

A cold shiver ran down my spine as an unsettling feeling of presence enveloped us, as though we weren’t alone. Jackie and I exchanged uneasy glances, unsure of our next move. Then, without warning, I was thrust into the pool by an unseen force. A sensation both cold and scalding gripped me, like something ethereal had pushed me.

Struggling to resurface, I felt my leg ensnared. A friend leaped into the pool, rescuing me from potential drowning. Dazed and speechless, I gazed into the water, perceiving a shadow where there shouldn’t have been one, adjacent to the pool cleaner. I questioned whether my leg was trapped by machinery or if some malevolent entity had seized me.

We rushed out of the water, apprehensive about staying near the pool or entering the house. Grabbing a chair, we attempted to climb over the brick fence. Kristen led the way, followed by Jordan and me. Just as I reached the top, an overpowering sensation of dread struck me. I hesitated, allowing Jackie to go ahead. Suddenly, a car honked and a furious voice shouted, “I’m calling the cops, you stupid kids!”

In a panic, we retreated, shocked and frightened. “We didn’t break that man’s window,” Brooke insisted, with unanimous agreement.

The car circled the house before finally departing. Cries of fear subsided when Kristen’s mother returned, bringing a measure of comfort. Later that night, we sought solace at Jordan’s house.

The events of that day remain an enigma, a source of lingering fear. The memory still chills me, preventing me from ever returning to Kristen’s house.
